Stephen Vaughn, a husband, a father, and a former Physical Education teacher of 7 years embarked on the ultimate dream chasing journey. He exited his teaching career in 2013 by jumping with no safety net to fulfill the growing demand of Xcel 2 Fitness, a non-profit he created to impact boys 3-5 grade and empower them to chase their dreams. It was from the pain of losing his father and the passion of making teaching PE as fun as possible as the gateway for generating smiles and building confidence. His desire to impact kids quickly expanded outside of the walls of his school and is now in 8 states across the country empowering Dream Chasers. His passion for empowering kids through X2F to reach for their passion, build the right team around them in life, and develop the grit to overcome obstacles in pursuit of their dreams is making an impact in and out of the classroom and is positioning kids for their dream chasing capabilities.
Favorite Quote: “Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~ Apple

X2F Charlotte – Jesse Woolsey
President since 2017, Jesse is excited to be a part of reaching boys’ hearts in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. He is excited to see coaches who are great role models leading boys as they develop essential character traits like grit and passion. In past years while volunteering at X2F events he has seen its reach and impact on individual boys as well as the empowerment that comes when they surround themselves with the right team. The vision of X2F to equip boys with the character they need to succeed through challenges and chase their dreams aligns well with Jesse’s other passions – being a middle school history teacher and soccer coach at Covenant Day School, which both provide opportunities to form relationships that empower.
X2F Chicago – Ryan McLaughlin
President since 2015, Ryan McLaughlin is a physical education teacher in Western Springs, IL. Father of 4, he has been at Field Park School since 2001. He is also the president and owner of Blue Moose Sports Camp. X2F’s idea of “chasing dreams” in life makes perfect sense to Ryan, especially in a time where children and being turned away from sports because of the pressure of travel sports at a younger age. He believes society is turning some potentially great athletes away because they don’t have the confidence they need to excel at a younger age. He sees how Xcel 2 Fitness helps children of all abilities achieve their goals and chase their dreams. Every child has their own unique skill set, and Xcel 2 Fitness helps improve those skills in a fun and exciting way. It is more than fitness, it is confidence and self respect that will allow these boys to move through any obstacle that they encounter in life.
X2F Lancaster, PA – Bill Caloviras
President since 2016, Bill has lived in Lancaster County for the last 21 years. Over that time, he has volunteered working with youth in different capacities, mostly coaching. In 2015, he lost his father and hero. One thing that stuck with Bill is that his father impacted every person he came in contact with and was always encouraging, always positive, always serving others. During the year after his father passed, in the midst of grieving, he was introduced to Xcel 2 Fitness, and Bill immediately realized that what X2F teaches young boys is very similar to what he learned from his dad.
X2F NW Arkansas – Katyln Murray
President since 2017, Katyln coached X2F for multiple years. She recognized the positive impact it was making on the boys she coached and recently became president of our second oldest chapter. Katyln is thrilled about how she can help the program reach more boys in her area. She is also recently married! Congrats, Katyln!
X2F NW Indiana – Barbara Muckel
President since 2016, Barbara Muckel volunteered as a Girls On The Run coach for 8 seasons. She realized that boys are also craving the opportunity to accomplish anything they set their minds to achieve. She believes all children deserve encouragement, support, and the opportunity to succeed. When she read the Xcel 2 Fitness mission statement, she realized that every boy in her community deserves the chance to not only dream BIG, but to be given the tools to achieve those dreams – guidance, encouragement, support and, of course, love. “I consider this a blessing in my life, to be a part of this incredible organization! I’ve had many blessings in my life thanks to God, my amazing family, and an awesome circle of friends. My greatest gift and highest achievement is my son, Hunter.”
X2F SW Florida – Melissa Pares-Alvarado
President since 2017, Melissa is a Florida native from Tampa, where she is a former standout athlete in several sports. Her husband, Jose, and children, Nora and Antonio, have lived in Naples for the last 4 years. In that time she developed a passion for Girls On The Run of Collier County and is currently a board member. In working with Girls On The Run, it lit a fire in her to serve the community, specifically focusing on youth programs. She has a passion for health and wellness, and she regularly enters races in the community and in general enjoys working out both with friends and family. She currently works at Orangetheory Fitness Naples, and has also worked for the Greater Naples YMCA and the Campo Family YMCA in Tampa. While being with the YMCA and being part of their focus on youth development, she saw the need for a boys’ program to complement the Girls On The Run program in Collier County. “It is helping so many elementary school-aged girls, and I knew I had to provide that for boys. With my son Antonio about to enter elementary school, I knew this would be a good time to grow the options for elementary school-aged boys with a program to help them and provide extra encouragement and support.”
X2F Yuba-Sutter, CA – Karen Peters
Our newest chapter, run by Karen Peters is taking Xcel 2 Fitness to the West Coast! Having been involved with Girls on the Run, she is excited about the opportunity of brining that impact to the boys of her community.
